Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. The fellowship is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements to join AA. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.

AA is a great place to meet and make clean and sober new friends no matter your gender, race, or history of alcohol dependence. Although Alcoholics Anonymous was founded to address the challenges of alcohol dependency, there is no reason why drug addicts shouldn’t attend AA meetings as long as they also have drinking problems. However, AA has traditions that are designed and structured to reinforce the AA fellowship. One of such traditions is that they generally confine their discussions to alcoholism and recovery from alcoholism.

For those seeking help with alcoholism, the only requirement for AA membership is your desire to quit drinking. AA rehabs are structured to be self-supporting, and membership is free except for voluntary contributions by members to help cover expenses like rent, coffee, etc. They offer Open Meetings which is open to the public, and members-only Closed Meetings.

One of the most important AA resources is what the AA community calls the Big Book, which is essentially a book designed to show alcoholics “precisely how they can recover” from their addiction. Each Midland AA meeting is autonomous, which means their meeting formats may vary from location to location.

UBH is a freestanding hospital, in the sense that it is equipped to provide emergency medical services outside a regular hospital campus. UBH is an inpatient and outpatient mental health facility, one of the few in the North Texas area providing timely and professional treatment for patients of every gender and age including teenagers and children as young as 13-years-old.

They offer special programs for mental illnesses, chemical dependence, military-related mental disorders, and pain management. UBH has been doing this since 2005 and has continued to provide the much-needed behavioral health services after purchasing the hospital from Ascend Healthcare in 2012. With licensing and accreditation by the Joint Commission, the hospital has a seal of quality, safety-of-care approval, and the safety of the environment in which their services are provided.

UBH employs evidence-based and proven treatment techniques while treating a wide range of mental health issues, co-occurring disorders, and addictive behaviors. One of UBH’s main highlights is the Ross Institute for Trauma, a program created to provide educational services, research, and quality clinical treatment in the areas of trauma, addictions, and co-occurring disorders.

Founded in 2006, Solutions of North Texas, also known as SONTX, is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization focused on providing excellent rehab services to men and women currently struggling with alcoholism and/or drug addiction. The organization helps victims of substance use disorders through residential, clinical, family, and court services.

This is a family-centered program helping people and communities overcome addictions regardless of gender, race, or socioeconomic status. SONTX does its work in partnership with various organizations, including the Cross Timbers Community Church and the Denton County Sheriff’s Department. Solutions of North Texas focuses on treating and advocating for people struggling with substance use disorders, thus, it does not provide treatment for other forms of addiction such as sex, porn, and eating disorders. However, SONTX can provide referrals to anyone who is seeking help. They also do not offer medical detox services but can provide referrals to anyone who needs it.

Because SONTX’s sober living service is not clinical, it is not covered by insurance, but they accept insurance for outpatient treatment. The minimum length of stay for its residential program is 90 days, although patients can stay up to a year if they wish. The length of stay for outpatients varies from client to client based on their treatment plans.

The average duration of SONTX’s outpatient program is 2 months, and 4 months for an intensive outpatient program. The Solution of North Texas welcomes clients who have a criminal background as long as it does not involve sexual offenses or a long history of violence.

CCD is there to offer affordable counseling services, substance abuse evaluation, substance abuse counseling, anger management, divorce sanity, co-parenting workshops, parenting plans, and more.

They offer a wide selection of counseling services and therapy to help their clients achieve maximum personal growth. The CCD Groups is one of such services covering anger management group, theft intervention group, supportive outpatient counseling, and intensive outpatient counseling. The groups meet more than once each week. While a client can have the option of individual or group counseling, the client can sometimes participate in both the group and individual meetings depending on the client’s unique needs and recovery goals.

The nature of the meetings can be educational, counseling or a blend often referred to as “psycho-educational.” The staff comprises Master's level professionals, licensed counselors, licensed psychologists, and certified therapists.

The theft intervention group is structured for adults referred by the court due to a theft offense. For those cases where counseling is the only treatment required for substance abusers, CCD is a superb choice. It can also serve as an added intervention to more intensive treatment, such as IOP, or used to treat a related issue, such as depression.

AppleGate Recovery is a dedicated rehab clinic with a narrowed focus on opioid addiction. The clinic employs a treatment method involving a blend of medication-assisted treatment (MAT), counseling, and complementary treatment services such as yoga and acupuncture.

Since AppleGate is an outpatient treatment center, patients can continue to fulfill their daily obligations such as school and work while going through treatment. AppleGate offers MAT to help reduce cravings and physical withdrawal symptoms associated with the recovery process from opioid addiction. They prescribe FDA-approved medications such as Buprenorphine and Suboxone.

Although drugs like buprenorphine are partly opioid, it activates the brain to a far lesser degree than full agonist opioids such as heroin or most prescription medications. Since the brain’s opioid receptors are already activated, stronger opioids won’t be able to take effect. Thus, buprenorphine reduces cravings and helps manage withdrawal symptoms.

AppleGate offers a continuum of care that goes beyond medically assisted treatment to include customized professional substance abuse counseling both in individual and group settings. AppleGate’s locations across the country include Baton Rouge, Bossier City, Bowling Green, Crestview Hills, El Dorado, Elyria, Huber Heights, Lake Charles, Metairie, Middletown, Monroe, Nashville, Oakdale, Plano, Richmond, Slidell, Thibodaux, Willoughby, and Lewisville.
