Hidden underneath the natural beauty of North Carolina is a more challenging side of the state. Over recent years, the number of drug overdose deaths has rapidly climbed, with a 39% year over year increase. Alcohol abuse has risen to become the third leading cause of preventable death in the state.
Working tirelessly to bring these numbers down, the state of North Carolina has provided funding to rehabilitation centers all over the state and started an awareness campaign about the disease of addiction. Residents looking for help in North Carolina can find it in one of many of the professional, compassionate facilities located in the area.
Best Rehab Centers in North Carolina

Asheville Recovery Center
Staff at the Asheville Recovery Center believe in tough love and compassion. Recovery is driven by accountability and individualized treatment plans that cater to the needs of each specific patient. The program is designed to stimulate healing of the body and mind through diverse therapies, and all patients are encouraged to develop long-lasting connections with each other.
This is an outpatient-only facility. Patients have the choice between a partial hospitalization day program and a traditional intensive outpatient treatment. Each program is limited to 30-45 clients to ensure the staff to client ratio is high. The Asheville Recovery Center offers therapies targeted specifically towards opioid use and alcoholism for patients who need concentrated help with these particular issues.

Mountainview Recovery
Mountainview Recovery practices SACOT – Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment. Those enrolled in the program are not required to live on campus, but are strongly encouraged to stay in one of the nearby sober living communities while undergoing treatment. Clients who participate in SACOT can expect to be involved in daily activities at least five times a week; the program is specially designed for those who have just left a residential facility and need more assistance transitioning to a sober life.
Through a variety of different therapies offered at Mountainview, patients can learn how to overcome past traumas and safely manage future negative emotions to avoid relapse. In the unfortunate case that a patient does relapse upon leaving the center, Mountainview provides a stabilization program, which is a shortened version of their full treatment program intended to get the client back on track.

Red Oak Recovery
Red Oak Recovery has three different treatment centers directed towards different groups. Patients can choose from a men’s rehabilitation facility, a women’s rehabilitation facility, and a young adult treatment center. Each recovery home has targeted treatments towards the problems faced by these genders and age groups, and offers patients a chance to overcome their addictions surrounded by like-minded individuals.
Each center treats a number of different addictions ranging from substance and alcohol abuse, to disordered eating. Red Oak Recovery also offers therapies to deal with less common behavioral addictions such as gambling addiction, video game addiction, sex addiction, and smartphone addiction. Patients have access to counseling and talk, wilderness, and experiential therapies during their time at the facility.

Addiction Recovery Medical Services
Patients in need of detox can find withdrawal treatment and more at Addiction Recovery Medical Services (ARMS). Each client is assessed by a medical professional to determine their specific detox needs and then scheduled for daily doses. Patients are required to attend counseling services if they are receiving detox at the center.
Both 12-step and non-12-step treatments are available at ARMS. There are additional group and one on one psychotherapy appointments that help to support the lessons patients learn in their peer self-help groups. The length of the regular outpatient program is decided on by the patient and staff; it can be as long or as short as the individual needs to feel confident in their recovery. The intensive outpatient program provides patients 9 hours of treatment a week for 8 to 14 weeks.

Two Dreams
The staff at Two Dreams are able to travel anywhere in the United States to perform at-home consultations for patients before they enroll in the center. These consultations are part of their extensive, comprehensive assessment process that each patient will experience. This in-depth look at a patient’s life helps staff to make informed decisions about the best type and length of treatment for them.
In addition to alcohol and substance abuse disorders, Two Dreams can treat individuals with dual diagnoses, video game addiction, internet addiction, and sex and porn addiction. They are also skilled in helping patients who have disordered eating. The center has a unique 3-7-3 model universal to substance and behavioral addictions that guides patients through treatment towards a sober, productive, and peaceful life.

Morehead City Treatment Center
With several treatment centers located across North Carolina, Morehead City Treatment Center provides a safe, discrete place for patients to receive detox services. They primarily function as a methadone clinic for patients who struggle with heroin and opioid use, but they can also help treat withdrawal from prescription drugs such as pain killers.
Optional mental health therapy services are offered on an outpatient basis to detox clients. The counseling center is headed by an addiction-science medicine certified physician with a supporting staff of skilled and compassionate nurses. In addition to drug addiction counseling, Morehead City Treatment Center offers addiction education and family drug education to the loved ones of patients.

Freedom Farm Ministries
Freedom Farm Ministries provides treatment for men in three phases. Each phase is accompanied by specific Christian teachings and a plan of action for guiding patients towards recovery. The facility houses up to 45 men in 6 different locations. The first phase is a ‘safe’ house that allows patients to stabilize themselves in their new surroundings. Men will stay for a minimum of 30 days at the safe house before moving on to the second, restorative phase.
After completing the secondary 40-day restoration phase where patients will address their relationship with faith and their motivations for seeking addiction treatment, patients are allowed to move into the Discipleship Learning Center. The center is a sober living facility that provides patients with structure and accountability as they begin searching for employment and transitioning back into normal life. The entire program takes about a year to complete, and there will soon be a similar women’s program available.

Healing Transitions
Healing Transition has been operating since 2001 and provides a number of free services to homeless, uninsured, and underserved communities. The center offers intake to non-medical detox 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Staff members are trained in using withdrawal assessment tools and monitor patients constantly to determine when higher care or a medically managed detox program is needed.
Patients can find emergency overnight shelter here in gender-separated housing. Their long-term recovery program is also gender separated. Each patient in the recovery program is required to attend educational classes and 12-step meetings. Further along in the program, community college classes are provided. Patients are allowed to stay as long as they need, but each participant must be over 18 and a resident of Wake County to receive the services at Healing Transitions.

Crest View Recovery Center
In both the inpatient and outpatient treatments at Crest View Recovery Center, patients are exposed to “reality therapy.” This is a therapeutic approach that helps clients focus on real-life problem solving and a process of making better choices to achieve specific life goals. The therapy encourages patients to reflect on and begin understanding their basic needs, supporting them as they reform and change their behaviors to meet these goals.
The residential inpatient program treats both men and women, often in co-ed groups, but the living quarters are separated by gender. Near the end of each treatment option (inpatient and outpatient), patients are educated on relapse prevention techniques so their sobriety can last a lifetime.

Midwood Addiction Treatment
Clients at the Midwood Addiction Treatment center are given access to a comprehensive, holistic treatment plan. Both inpatient and outpatient services emphasize the importance of total body wellness when it comes to recovering from addiction. Patients can choose from recreational and fitness activities, as well as outdoor and adventure therapies as part of their personal treatment plan.
Nearing the end of their time in the program, patients will receive career counseling and educational assistance from Midwood. Staff will help clients prepare resumes and can help with job placement around the area. Further support can be given with aftercare planning and transitional living accommodations as patients finish and graduate from their treatments.

Harmony Recovery Center
All treatments are administered from the Harmony Recovery Center’s main building in the heart of Charlotte. The building is safe and comfortable, and patients will be able to receive detox services or attending counseling meetings. There are different intensities of treatments provided that range from an outpatient meeting once a week, to the partial hospitalization program that requires patients to participate in full daily programming throughout the week.
Harmony Recovery Center promotes trauma recovery in patients using EDMR therapy. This type of treatment can help patients understand deep-seated issues to help give them successful long-term recoveries. The center also utilizes art and music therapies to encourage reflection and confrontation of strong emotions during the patient’s treatment.

Oasis Recovery
Like Midwood Addiction Treatment, Oasis Recovery incorporates holistic beliefs into their rehabilitation programs. Patients are treated according to their innovative “Oasis Model,” a model that includes support, resources, and opportunities for the patients to begin building their best life while in recovery.
The residential facilities are gender separated, each one nestled into the tranquil Blue Ridge Mountains. Patients will be transported to the main center each day to participate in individual and group counseling, yoga, and educational sessions. After completion of the program, alumni have lifetime access to a peer support network and the option to transition to sober living houses.

Insight Human Services
Walk-in appointments are permitted at Insight Human Services. Assessments are provided at these appointments to determine what type of help the patient needs. There is a separate treatment center that provides both outpatient and residential services for young adults suffering from substance or alcohol addiction, and a main center that can treat adults.
Insight also offers a women’s-only recovery center. Priority admissions are given to pregnant women who have previously used intravenously or have substance use disorders. Specialized care for pregnant women can be received here, along with perinatal care that strives to improve birth outcomes and reduce long-term negative effects for women and their children.

Changing Tides
Located just yards from the ocean, Changing Tides supplies patients with secure, relaxing housing options. Patients who are attending the partial hospitalization program and those looking for a sober living facility are able to stay at the center. Changing Tides makes sure that their accommodations are as close to “real life” as possible and does not enforce strict curfews or a ban on cellular devices, unlike other programs. This can be a pro or a con depending on the patient. They also allow pets to live with residents on a case by case basis.
Through all of their programs, Changing Tides promotes peer support. There is a strong community on site where patients of all programs can interact and help each other. This increased communication and social interaction gives patients the confidence they need to continue their recovery when away from the center.

Lifeline Treatment Center
Patients enrolled in the intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization program at Lifeline Treatment Center may also choose to enroll in one of the facility’s sober living homes. This gives patients the option to access their treatments from a safe, structured environment. Detox services are provided, but are not medically supervised; patients who require detoxing from alcohol and benzodiazepines cannot receive treatment here due to the potential life-threatening withdrawal symptoms that may occur without medical intervention.
The 12-step method is used as the focusing point for all levels of outpatient treatments. Patients are encouraged to come into the program open-minded and ready to communicate about their feelings and needs in order to get the maximum amount of benefits possible from their program.

Pavillon
Pavillon has a wide array of targeted programs designed to help several different groups of people. There is a men’s program, a women’s program, and a young men’s program. Additionally, they have a program specifically created for skilled or licensed professionals that are struggling with addiction. The program addresses the demands and expectations of such professions, and helps patients develop the coping skills they need to return to work while maintaining employment.
The residential program is 6 weeks long, and patients will be expected to attend weekly accountability and 12-step meetings throughout their stay. The center helps patients find new sober leisure activities that they can continue when they leave the program. Much like Changing Tides, the outpatient facility is located near the ocean, providing patients with a serene atmosphere to receive their treatments.

Silver Ridge Recovery
Targeted towards middle-aged adults, Silver Ridge Recovery provides age-specific rehabilitation programs for both alcohol and substance addictions. Older adults are incredibly susceptible to developing substance use disorders due to a variety of factors such as grief, past drug use, chronic health conditions, and the physiological toll of aging.
The treatment programs at Silver Ridge take into account the unique challenges facing midlife adults and seniors, and center their treatments around addressing past traumas and conditions that may have led to substance or alcohol abuse. Patients are exposed to self-esteem and confidence treatments, and can participate in animal therapy, dance therapy, and life skills development while in the program.

Next Step Recovery
The intensive outpatient program at Next Step Recovery requires patients to attend for 15 hours per week. It is focused on helping patients who have been recently discharged from a residential facility help stay clean. It’s also targeted towards patients who feel a typical outpatient program would not be intensive enough.
Both the intensive outpatient program and the sober living facility encourage clients to participate in outdoor activities and martial arts. Martial arts training teaches discipline, something that many patients will need to ensure their long-term recovery. The center provides DBT skills classes and distress tolerance workshops to equip each patient with the tools they need to understand and cope with potential addiction triggers.

Fellowship Hall
Fellowship Hall’s primary residential treatment program includes a therapeutic assessment, treatment plan development, individual and group therapies, and a specialized grief group for any patient who has experienced loss. If needed, detox services will be provided to the patient upon entering into the residence or before starting outpatient treatment.
Both treatment options utilize biofeedback therapy to help patients understand their involuntary functions. The therapy is used to analyzing how each individual reacts to stressful situations such as cravings and withdrawals; the results are then used to tailor relaxation exercises and specific therapies that allow patients to gain control over these functions.

Green Hill Recovery
Green Hill Recovery is primarily a transitional sober living home for patients who have already completed a detox or residential treatment program. The home is structured, and features four different phases with specific milestones for residents to work towards as they adapt to life in the Green Hill community.
The outpatient program is also available in four levels. Each level has a different intensity and unique goals for the patient to achieve while they are in the program. Patients move up in tiers as they gain sober living experience. Green Hill Recovery encourages its patients to attend activities together such as hiking and volunteering around the community. The center believes that each patient should embody a wellness-focused lifestyle as part of their long-term recovery.
